CPNZ Training Newsletter #01

14th October 2008

The CPNZ level 1 training has got underway since the Waipuna NTS in Auckland with almost 90 patrollers certified so far. A nationwide programme has commenced which has covered patrols from Auckland in the north to Invercargill in the south.

The executive committee members have taken the lead with nearly all of them having completed the course. Regional representatives have either completed the course or are booked into one before the end of the year.

CPNZ chairman Robert Fowler states ‘it is fantastic how the patrols have taken up the initiative. The police are supporting training by presenting sessions on drug issues in the community as well as sending police dog handlers to advise on operational procedures; the support is tremendous. With our Training Officer Chris Lawton we have a sound programme delivered by an experienced crime prevention specialist who is also an ex police officer, we couldn’t ask for any better. The course is free to all patrol members’. The facilitator of CPNZ training is Chris Lawton, a patrol member who has an extensive background in the New Zealand Police, private security industry and crime prevention with community organisation.

Chris has been a trainer in the police as well as a training manager for his own company C4 Risk Management Group Ltd. He is accredited as an Independent Workplace Assessor for the security industry and also trains emergency response personnel in the Civil Defence area.
